A girl from an Afghan kochi tribe, pastoral nomads that travel across different regions of Afghanistan during the year, walks with her flock of sheep in remote Chak district, Wardak province in August of 2022. There are an estimated 1.5 million Kochi nomads in Afghanistan but their lifestyle and culture have become endangered, and many have become semi-nomadic or sedentary due to challenges including droughts, natural disasters, lands disputes and displacement

Elise Blanchard is a French freelance photojournalist and videographer. She has been based in Afghanistan for five years, including two years at AFP's Kabul bureau. Her work has been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, AFP, Guardian, among others. Elise regularly collaborates with UN agencies and NGOs, shooting photo stories and videos.

50% of your purchase will be donated to support Artijaan's women's networks in rural Afghanistan and 50% will be given to the photographer.
